What is the full form of BTS?

The meaning or full form of BTS is “BangTan Sonyeondan”. It is a Korean word meaning "Bulletproof Boy Scouts". In an interview with Affinity Magazine, one of the members of the BTS group named 'J-Hope' explained that the meaning of BTS reflects the will of the group. He explained that it symbolizes the blocking of stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that target today's generation of teenagers or youth like bullets.

In July 2017, BTS redesigned the brand logo and shared that the term BTS would also stand for "Beyond the Scene" as part of their new brand identity. This expanded meaning of BTS is significant for those young BTS who refuse to settle for anything and go beyond limits. This way, BTS again sent a positive message to the fan base with the full form of BTS.

Who is BTS?

BTS, or Bangtan Sonyeondan, is a seven-member South Korean boy band group formed in 2010. However, BTS debuted under Big Hit Entertainment (now rebranded as Big Hit Music) in June 2013 with their debut album '2 Cool 4 Skool'. The group has won the hearts of millions of fans around the world since its debut.

BTS initially started as a hip hop band group, but their musical style has evolved over time and includes many other genres such as K-pop (Korean popular music), Pop (popular music), R&B (rhythm and blues), and EDM (electronic dance music)

The lyrics of BTS composed songs often focused on personal and social commentary, touch on themes of mental health, the troubles of school-age youth and coming of age, loss, the journey of loving oneself, and individualism. Because of it, BTS has become a youth symbol and inspiration for billions of youth.

Note: BTS officially debuted with a song titled 'No More Dream' under the album '2 Cool 4 Skool'. It sold around 50,000 copies and BTS went unstoppable with each song thereafter. The lyrics were inspirational from their very first song. 

How many members are in BTS?

The BTS group is also referred to as the "Bangtan Boys" by most people, while the people or fans who listen to their songs are referred to as the "BTS Army", where ARMY stands for “Adorable Representative MC for Youth”. 


There are a total of seven primary members in the BTS. The BTS members are named "RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook". Jin, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook are the vocalists, while SUGA, j-hope, and RM (Rap Monster) are rappers.

RM

RM is primarily known by his stage name, but his real name is "Kin Nam-joon". He was born on 12 September 1994. RM is the leader of the BTS group. He released his first solo mixtape titled RM on 20 March 2015. RM is best known as a rapper, but he is also a songwriter and record producer.

Jin

Jin is currently the eldest BTS member and his real name is "Kim Seok-jin". He was born on 4 December 1992. Jin has been a member of BTS since June 2013. He was invited to join Big Hit Entertainment (now rebranded as Big Hit Music) while he was studying about films and movies. Jin released his first solo track with BTS on October 10, 2016, titled Awake

SUGA

SUGA is the primary rapper of BTS and his real name is "Min Yoon-gi". He was born on March 9, 1993. SUGA debuted as a BTS member in 2013. He released his first solo mixtape on 15 August 2016, titled August D (commonly known as SUGA of boy-band BTS). That is why he is also known by August D as his other stage name after SUGA.

In addition to rapper, SUGA is also a songwriter and record producer. The Korea Music Copyright Association credits SUGA as a songwriter and producer for more than 100 songs. 


j-hope

Another member of BTS is named J-Hope (stylized as j-hope). Although his stage name is mostly used, his real name is "Jung Ho-seok". He was born on February 18, 1994. J-Hope debuted as a BTS member in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. Before joining BTS, he was a part of a street dancing group.

J-Hope released his first solo mixtape on March 2, 2018, titled Hope World. Apart from being a dancer, he is also a rapper, songwriter, and record producer.

Jimin

Jimin is a singer and dancer in the BTS group and his real name is "Park Ji-min". He was born on 13 October 1995. Jimin also debuted as a member of BTS in 2013. He released his first solo song in 2016, titled Lie. It was released as part of BTS' second Korean studio album called Wings.

V

V is a singer and songwriter and usually plays vocalist in BTS. His real name is "Kim Tae-hyung". He was born on 30 December 1995. V joined Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee after giving an audition. He debuted in BTS in 2013, but his name was kept secret while other member names were already announced. 

The agency (Big Hit Entertainment) introduced him as a secret member by giving him a surprise during his debut with the track "No More Dream". He released the first solo song on BTS' second Korean studio album Wings in 2016, titled Stigma.

V

Jung Kook

Jung Kook is currently the youngest BTS member and his real name is "Jeon Jung-kook". He was born on 1st September 1997. Jung Kook is a member of BTS since June 2013 and usually plays the role of vocalist.

Although Jung Kook received several casting offers from entertainment companies, he chose to become a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment because he was inspired by another member, RM. He released his first solo pop track/song in the 2016 album Wings, titled Begin.
